If supporting Black-owned wine and spirits is your thing, then we highly suggest making a trip to Happy Cork. Since opening in 2019, Happy Cork has become home to the largest selection of Black and minority-owned wines and spirits. The mastermind behind Happy Cork is Sunshine, a Brooklyn-native, who is passionate about creating spaces that highlight amazing overlooked and underserved brands while also catering to her community.
Happy Cork truly is a Happy Place. When you walk inside you are greeted by the staff and taken away by how intentionally curated the space is. The store is stocked floor to ceiling with wines in one area and spirits in another. They also have a fridge and freezer if you are looking for something that’s already chilled. Throughout the store, you will find arrangements for small gifts and treats by small Black and minority-owned businesses. One of the treats we discovered during a visit was Treats by Trent- a Black-owned Artisinal Wine & Spirits infused popcorn company . We also saw a selection of pins, candles, playing cards, shot glasses, and other drinking accessories.
Happy Cork frequently hosts in-store tastings of new Black-owned wines and spirits, so we strongly suggest signing up for their newsletter and/or following their Instagram Page. In addition to a loyalty program, they also have an app that is easy to use. It was our go-to for placing orders during the Pandemic.
