2023 AnimeNYC Recap
We’re introverts, so conventions are something we would normally avoid. However, a loved one had an extra badge and we couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to go to our first AnimeNYC Convention. If you’re in NYC and Anime is your thing, then this event is for you! Last year’s event took place November 17-19, 2023 at the Jacob K. Javitz Convention Center in Manhattan, NY, and attracted 60,000 Anime lovers from across the world. Our badge was for Sunday Nov 19, Day 3, of the convention. Below is a recap of our experience.
Our 2023 AnimeNYC Sunday Badge
Programming: The event offers a variety of programming ranging from special guests, to screenings and panels. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the opportunity to partake in any of the programming. If you want to attend some programming we’d suggest getting badges for more than one day because you can easily spend all your time in the Exhibition Hall like we did.
Exhibit Hall: This is where we spent a majority of our time. The Exhibition Hall is where you can find activations, vendors and artists. There was something for everyone in the Exhibition Hall! It was crowded in there, but we enjoyed walking around and seeing the vendors and artists. We appreciated that all of the artists were in one area of the hall, designated as Artist Alley. One of the artist tables that stood out to us was Tuskegee Heirs We got to learn more about their comic series as well as see some of their work and connect with their creators.

Food: In addition to the generic convention center food, there was also a variety of food and dessert vendors that popped up at the event. If you’re trying to visualize things, think of an indoor Smorgsborg. There was ramen, ice cream, boba, tacos, bahn mi sandwiches, etc. We made sure to eat before we left, so we were looking for something to snack on. After circling around all the vendors we opted for a Japanese Curry Beef Taco from Takumi Taco and it was delicious. So much so, that after finishing it we went right back online and ordered a few more.
Attendees: The attendees were our favorite part of the whole convention. We’re here for Cosplay and people went all out for this event! We LOVED seeing all the Black Girls show up all their full selves and take part in the Cosplay. We didn’t dress up, but they inspired us to go big or go home for this year’s event.
